A quirky little place wrapped up in the middle of nowhere; in good weather Reception moves onto the veranda and the dogs sunbathe on lilos.
Below, the blissful River Garry jumps from one loch to another, beyond, Glas Bheinn rises from the forest. Interiors are stylishly unpretentious (posh, but old!) with piles of logs and vintage luggage in the hall, a country-house dining room for breakfasts and a smouldering coal fire in the lively bar.
Come to fish - the hotel has rights on the loch and river-and if you're lucky, they'll cook your catch for supper. If not, settle for langoustine and cockles from Skye, or halibut fresh from Lochinver.
A Swiss filmmaker liked the place so much he returned to shoot a movie.
Exquisite walking in the wild and peaceful glen, with Loch Hourn 20 miles upstream (where the road runs out).
Bedrooms are simple, homely, nicely priced, full of colour; those at the front have huge Glengarry views.
There's loads to do: 35 munros to climb, clay-pigeon shooting, white-water rafting, water-skiing, abseiling, mountain biking. ... MORE >>
