Accommodation: The Birchwood, according to the Rough Guide, "occupies a lovely Victorian country house" - a fine, Scottish family home, built in 1875. Set in 2 acres of natural woodland and garden with a generous sweep of lawn, elevated over the town of Pitlochry, the country house retains much of its original character. The grounds provide quiet seclusion, yet the house is only minutes walk from the town centre.
On arrival, entering the hall with its darkwood panelling, vibrantly rich wall colour, gleaming brasses and lighting carefully crafted to evoke the atmosphere of the Victorian origins of the house, even the new visitor experiences a reaction of reassuring recognition. For old friends, it's a homecoming. When acquaintances ask a regular visitor where he stays during his annual Scottish holiday, he replies "with friends whose house is a hotel".

Services & Facilities: All bedrooms have been completely refurbished and upgraded to the level of comfort and standard of furnishing and equipment you would expect. They have colour coordinated linen, curtains and bedding. Naturally there is TV, self-dial telephone and hospitality tray. The beds have electric blankets for those not so warm spring or autumn nights.

Bar & Restaurant: To quote again from The Rough Guide, the Birchwood Hotel has a particularly good restaurant. The dining experience at the Birchwood is central to the enjoyment of many visitors' Perthshire holiday. Given reasonable notice, Birchwood will be happy to take account of special dietary requirements. Birchwood declares that our suppliers have given the assurance that, to the best of their knowledge, all ingredients used in house are GM free. To complement your meal we offer a well researched selection of wines from both Europe and the New World. Old favourites like Chablis and Chateauneuf du Pape are found in our cellar - as are award-winning stunners from Chile, South Africa, California, Australia and New Zealand.

Location: Enclosed by woodland and garden, yet just a few minutes walk from Pitlochry, Birchwood House is in highland Perthshire, in the heart of Scotland, midway between Perth and Inverness. Within a half hour drive is Loch Tummel, Queens View, Loch Rannoch and Sciehallion mountain. Further on is Rannoch Moor and the Pass of Killiecrankie.

How to get there: Pitlochry is easily accessible by road, being only half an hour from Perth. International and national airlines are available at Edinburgh and Glasgow. Main-line rail services to and from England via Edinburgh and Glasgow call frequently at Pitlochry. Luxury coaches connect through Glasgow and Edinburgh to and from the south.
Driving from Perth, take the A9 in direction of Inverness. As you enter Pitlochry, look out for the Bells distillery on the right. Immediately afterward you will see the Birchwood sign framed in the arch of the rail bridge. After you pass the sign take the first right onto East Moulin Road. The entrance is 100metres further.
