I would like to say that we had a very enjoyable stay at the County Arms Hotel and the management and staff were excellent. We had an exceptional time and excellent value for money. The family run personal touch is very evident and is a very unique and welcome touch to a 4 star hotel. Staff are there to tend to your every request and nothing is a problem. I would recommend the County Arms to anyone who wants to explore Birr and Offaly and a visit to Birr Castle and grounds is a must. This is a hidden gem in Ireland.

Overall the staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The hotel and grounds were nice but small repairs were needed which would have made it better. Anything we reported was dealt with well except for the TV which did not work properly for the duration. I mentioned I liked natural yoghurt and the next morning there was some there - impressive. kids loved the pool. There is a wonderful old vegetable and fruit garden which was somewhat neglected - could be because of the rain but it is an asset and worth the effort. Sending me the spa brochure in advance got me to book treatments. This was a first as I usually dont try to book until I get to hotels and am usually disappointed. The food was good - could do with apple juice for the children in the morning. These are small things. we had a lovely refreshing break.

We had a wonderful time in the County Arms Hotel, the food was excellent, the room terrific, the staff helpful, the Gym was fantastic and the leisure facilities great. My only critisim is that the Hotel seems unfinished and a very uninteresting entrance to greet you. I was not aware that this hotel had a face lift, there is still alot of work to do to make it the wow! factor. Our first morning for breakfast was so funny, as the staff really did there best to produce Irish Breakfast asap, but people were waiting quite along time. We were lucky and got breakfast straight away, so it did not affect us. On the whole this Hotel was very pleasant and within walking distance to the town.

I found the staff and the facilities to be excellent. My 4year old son loved the swimming pool and we were always greeted and armbands given out without asking after the first time. The food and the service were both excellent and fast, we ate in the hotel each night twice in the bar and once in the retaurant. The menu was fair but could probably do with having some more main course selections. We would definitely return to the County Arms based on our recent experience. All the staff we dealt with were very good from the moment we entered till when we left.

All staff at the County Arms hotel (particularly the waitresses) were exceptionally pleasant and went out of their way to welcome and accommodate all guests. Rooms, facilities, grounds and food were all excellent. Hotel is situated close to town centre, parks and playgrounds which was extremely convenient for my pensioner parents and 9 year old son. We all had a fanstastic time despite the weather and will definately be future guests at the County Arms.

The food was sumptuous but the wait in between was not. We had the kids with us and when they were finished their main course we still had not gotten our main course and with the gardens outside that was another distraction. So it would have been better without the wait.

My wife, and I, together with our 2 1/2 year-old and 4
month-old kids stayed at the County Arms for 3 days
recently, in one of the Family rooms.
It was beyond our highest expectations:
possibly because our expectations had been lowered by
all of the recent bad reviews we'd read;
possibly because the staff were excellent, the food was
great (both breakfast and dinner in the bar), and the
room was huge, with a nice feature of having the bunk-beds
located around a corner so that our older child could
sleep in relative darkness while her parents read/watched
TV/chatted/fed our infant/etc 'til much later.
The pool/sauna/steamroom/jacuzzi/spa facilities were also
excellent, and, as we were there midweek, we had the place
virtually to ourselves for much of the time.
Perfect! And all this for a couple hundred euro in total.
(I can understand that whomever paid 150 euro per night
might feel hard done by. Shop around lady!)
Note: There WERE a few niggly issues:
our requested travel cot was ot in the room when we arrived...
(we had extra single beds, so could put out infant in there.)
the porter going missing when we needed him during checkin
(I simply borrowed his cart),
the steamroom smelling slightly of drains on day 1
(fixed with eucalyptus oil as soon as I mentioned it to
the staff),
the 2 magnetic room keys only ever worked one at a time...
when 1 was 'fixed' the other stopped working
(the hotel is newly refurbished. As any parent knows:
Teething troubles are to be expected)
All in all, for us : 5 out of 5.

The bedrooms were lovely, king sized beds, lovely linens. The shower was gorgeous.
The bar was lovely with nice comfortable leather couches and seats - however they did have Dublin prices.
The food was good, however I felt there weren't enough waiting staff in the restaurant, now it was very busy, but we had to ask them to clear our table.
The spa centre was gorgeous. And the pool and the jacuzzi. However the changing rooms were chilly and the showers not the best in there.

Overall we had a great stay, staff very friendly, rooms lovely and airy, bar area very welcoming...just one complaint, when we ordered wine at dinner each night the bottle was brought out to us already opened and we were never given the chance to sample it first. The hotel was very cold on our arrival and remained very chilly for the remainder of our first evening. We found the food very bland and unexciting and frankly I've served up better meals at home! It was an impersonal, bland hotel with no personality or warmth to it. On the plus side, the leisure centre, jacuzzi, gym, etc were the saving grace for us.

Liked alot and used leisure facilities..great on whole. One issue: Many rooms look out on fine yard which had a major eye sore: empty glass bottles which were in a significant size heap. Expect there must be a better means of processing these empties, e.g bottle bank type setup

Myself, husband and two children had a delightful stay in the Hotel. We found the staff to be extremely helpful and courteous. Regarding the food, the evening menu in the bar is the same as the Restaurant menu, which we found to be a bit pricey, especially when you are looking to eat Bar food and not a three course mea, but even at that, I found the food to be really good. I also thought they should have more of a variety for the breakfast i.e., fruit, muffins, scones, etc. The Hotel was very clean, family room nice and spacious. There was no entertainment in the Hotel and perhaps they should introduce this as it was a bit disappointing as we retired to our Hotel room every evening at 8.00 pm.

i was happy overall with my stay however the hotel needs to improve customer care, we had a tv with two staions because of a power surge 'last week' should have been fixed by then and faulty lockers in the leisure centre. these things are off putting there were also broken light fittings in corridors and unfinished areas outside and at reception these things need attending. staff were fine very friendly and we did enjoy our stay
