We were made very welcome and the food at the hotel was very tasty, including the bar food. If you are in that part of Caithness its very well located for visiting the Castle of Mey, John O'Groats and Thurso.

This was an excellent find near the ferries over to Orkney, especially the Gills Bay ferry. Friendly staff, good food, much nicer than we had expected.

We had a fabulous stay at the Castletown Hotel. It was very clean and neat. Our room was nice and the food in the pub excellent. Breakfast was phenomenal. There was plenty to choose from and it was all freshly prepared. Hot foods were hot and cold foods well chilled. We will definately stay there again.

Staff were friendly and helpful.
The food was very good, huge portions. Tea and coffee were a little on the weak side.
Enjoyed our stay.

On the negative side I was allocated Roon 7 which was situated next to the kitchen and the night porter had left the radio on all night, which made sleep difficult. I mentioned this in the morning and the staff were most apologetic and I did receive a discount. The rooms were very clean and the food of a high standard with a hot buffet breakfast. I would have no hesitation staying in this hotel again if in the area.

I thought the food both dinner and breakfast were excellent. The room I stayed in was comfortable and clean; the only thing I couldn't work were the remote controls for the TV

The room was very comfortable and clean, with a good bed. The hotel itself did a fabulous Sunday carvery and the breakfast was good too. On the down side, the hotel could use some tidying as there were a number of areas that were a bit shabby, and the bar staff were slower than a one armed blind man! I should point out that although very slow, all the staff were very friendly so provided you don't mind waiting a bit longer for drinks etc, it is a great place to stay!

We were very pleasantly surprised at the fabulous food on offer. The breakfast fruit bowl was amazing and the evening meals were superb in taste and price. The hotel staff were all happy and obliging. Even your tv reception was better than our own at home!
The hotel is also very well located to all the main attractions in the north including the ferry to the Orkneys. If only they had cask ales in the pub it would be perfect!

Despite the hotel being very quite I found it very welcoming and friendly. Being able to acomodate my two dogs on a very cold winters evening was excellent. The food very well cooked and and plenty of it.
I will recomend my stay and hope to return on future trips to the Orkneys.

My husband and I enjoyed a very pleasant few nights at the Castletown Hotel. We were shown warm and wonderful hospitality from the owners and staff, the food was excellent and the room very comfortable. A highly recommended place to stay and so close to Thurso and the Orkneys.

The decor was a little chintzy, but the hotel was spotlessly clean and the staff were very friendly. Only 15 mins from Gills Bay to get the katamaran to Orkney. I wouldn't hesitate to stay there again.
