Great central location but on a quiet/safe sidestreet and exceptionally friendly and helpful staff. Exceptionally clean room too. My room was above the door to a nightclub that opened at 12 midnight, but the noise was still much less than other parts of the Chueca area. The wifi internet didn't work for me but the staff tried hard to fix the problem (and they were convinced it was my computer, not theirs, that was the problem -- not sure I agree but I appreciated all the effort).	report this review as inappropriate

First time I had ever stayed at a hostal and I chose the Tokio carefully. The website does the rooms justice, exceptionally clean room, comfortable beds, clean bathroom with a hot shower which worked fine. A little noisy as there is a club next door but wasn't too bad. Very friendly staff, speak good english. Could have done with a full length mirror in the room and maybe a few english shannels on the TV as well as a kettle in the room, but hey, for what we paid, we were very happy! Hostel exceeded my expectations. We had everything required and the room was cleaned every day and new towels brought in every day also. The noise from the street didn't bother me, but few nights my friend had trouble sleeping. The staff was friendly, although we didn't need their services much (which. of course, is a good thing). Absolutely ok for the price and we enjoyed our stay. Very near to the city center. The hostal was very clean and the staff very friendly. The only problem was that the rooms were poorly soundproofed. So do not forget your earplugs! Especially during the night there was a lot of night from outside. But we would definitely book here again!	report this review as inappropriate

El hostal por dentro está bien, aunque está situado en unas calles en las que suele haber gente un poco rara (aunque parece que n ose meten con nadie) y algo ruidosas las noches de fiesta (parece que es sitio de tránsito).	report this review as inappropriate

Very clean and friendly staff but unfortuntly set in a busy street so lots of road noise at night. But very central and handy for all the shops and bars, our triple room was excellent with clean towels provided every day, overall a very good place to stay.	report this review as inappropriate

Excellente adresse à recommander à tous les "candidats" visiteurs de Madrid qui cherchent un endroit accueillant à petit prix dans le "coeur" de la capitale espagnole. L'hostal est en effet à deux pas de la Gran Via (artère principale) et l'attention est particulièrement soignée (chambre agréable et propre ; service impeccable ; gentillesse des personnes rencontrées !) El Hostal Tokio está en el barrio de Malasaña, a menos de 5 min de la estacion de metro de Gran Via y es una zona muy recomendable para visitar la ciudad, porque esta cerca de Puerta del Sol, Cibeles, Puerta de Alcalá, etc. Se puede visitar muchas cosas si necesidad de coger el metro o el autobus. Está en la zona de bares, pero la calle de este Hostal es muy tranquila y no hay ruidos por la noche. Las habitaciones son amplias y con baño, todo muy limpio. No tiene cocina, asi que no hay posibilidad de coger desayuno, ni comidas, pero tiene un máquina de comida y bebida. Hostal muy recomendable. El hostal está en un primer piso sin ascensor, pero no creo que sea mucho problema para subir las maletas a pie.	report this review as inappropriate

The hostal was very centric (three blocks away from Gran Via metro station). It is located on a tiny narrow street and on the second floor (it says first floor, but in Spain, they don't count the first floor as first!). So if you have heavy bags, beware. The room itself was clean and seemed pretty new. It was confortable, but the tv remote didn't work. At night, around midnight, it started getting extremely noisy. People were talking, screaming and fighting right outside and didn't leave until 5:30 am. The next day my friend and I realized there were a few "sex shops" and other places of questionable reputation between the hostal and the main avenue. Overall the hostal staff was nice and helpful; the room was clean and perfect to leave your stuff, shower and go. At night I would definitely recommend taking a taxi back to the hostal if late...ah! and don't forget to get a nice set of earplugs that you can buy at the pharmacy (Gran Via) for less than 4 euros; my best investment in Madrid!	report this review as inappropriate

The Tokio Hostal is a great place to stay at. I myself stayed already in a lot of hostels over the intire world and i would say this is the best one i stayed in till now. The Rooms are from the same quality as a hotel, they are very clean (the room got cleaned every day), you get clean towels every day. The people working there are very friendly, the location is amazing and the price is very low! La estancia en el Tokio es excelente. Es el hostal en el que me siento más cómodo. Siempre que voy a Madrid miro primeramente si hay disponibilidad en este hostal, porque ya me he hospedado muchas veces y la relacion calidad-precio es inmejorable. Es tranquilo, céntrico, muy limpio, acogedor y el servicio es muy amable con sus clientes. El hostal està bien: habitaciones equipadas con lo necesario, ambiente familiar, personal disponible, buen servicio de limpieza. A un paso de la Gran Via, muy cerca de las estaciones del metro de Callao y Gran Via. Ofrece conexion al internet hasta la medianoche en la recepción. No tiene bar ni restaurante interno, pero tiene distribuidores de bebidas (calientes o frias) y snaks. Las tarifas son muy convenientes. The room was very clean and brightly furnished. We really enjoyed our stay in this hostel. It is clean, the beds are good and are redone every day, clean towels, etc. The staff is friendly and the hostel is well located. My only negative comment is that the walls between rooms are a bit too thin. If you are unlucky, your neighbours might keep you out of your sleep for a bit (we didn't have any problems though).	report this review as inappropriate

Hostal Tokio is in the very city centre of Madrid. We felt like being in hotel (our room cleaned every day, towels changes, beds made), though no breakfast offered and our room just over night club, we have to say that we will definitely choose Hostal Tokio when coming back to Madrid.	report this review as inappropriate

The hostal is located in the middle of the 'gay' district of Madrid, it is extremely sleazy and not safe to walk around late at night. We were there for the weekend and didn't get any sleep at all, as the bars and clubs in the area didn't close until 7am and the noise was unbearable. Unless you are a night owl, don't stay there.
