comments Staff were excellent. Room was poor. Bedding shocking. Heating turned off early in night. Woke up freezing to noise of band in function room playing till 2:30. Both nights!

comments The room was freezing.We had to make couple of phone calls but the room never really heated up.I had to put a jumper over my pjs. We went down to to the spa to see if they had availability but thank god it did not, as it looked absolutley filthy.Breakfast was like feeding time at the zoo.Staff at the breakfast were not very helpful or friendly,that is why ordered breakfast in bed.Housekeeping were very friendly and the meal in the spago was lovely.The young girl in the coffee shop was also very friendly.

comments Firstly the hotel was clearly sign posted through Portlaoise which I think is extremely important, as I think this is a great start to your stay. The receptionist was very helpful on arrival. We had a number of treatments in the spa and these were fantastic, the staff were very pleasant and helpful. We had a dinner in Spagos, the staff were friendly and welcoming and the food was delicious. I used the gym and swimming pool the following morning and again the staff were helpful and the amenities were clean. I enjoyed our stay and will be returning again in the near future.

comments The reception staff were absolutely wonderful - always friendly and helpful without intruding at all. Any questions I had about hotel services or directions to places in the area were gladly answered. Access to the gym was fantastic and again the staff there were really wonderful. They made a relatively lengthy work stay far more fun and were always happy to call to confirm whether classes were going ahead or to encourage me to go along to a class that might be fun. The Coffee Bean restaurant is absolutely lovely. Great food and accomodating service. The room was clean and comfortable and well equipped with coffee, tea, ironing board, television (though perhaps more channels would not be turned down...). The room was always cleaned beautifully and without my ever coming across anyone doing it! Wifi didn't extend as far as my room, which was disappointing - had to go out to the corridor by the lift to go on the internet, not ideal! The only thing that was below the very high standard of the hotel was the breakfasts - sometimes lacking in vareity and more modern options at the buffet (more vareity of breads, fruits, seeds, nuts, cold fish etc).

comments We were very pleased with the quality of the hotel and the friendliness of the staff. We had a generous size room with a very comfortable bed. Everywhere was spotllessly clean. We enjoyed the leisure pool and visited the pub which had live music. We would stay again.

comments I arranged a 60th surprise birthday party for my husband. The staff were excellent (including assisting me with my lies!). I can't speak highly enough of the hotel, they just can't do enough for you. I also got a follow up call from the hotel afterwards enquiring if everything was to my satisfaction. I would highly recommend this hotel and from the feedback from my guests they would too.

comments The hotel is charming, clean and comfortable. There was a huge choice for the breakfast buffet, and our meal at the Italian Restaurant was wonderful. We had a lovely stay, and it was great value too.

comments Excellent hotel and a great rate. Staff very friendly. Not the easiest to find though. Excellent Breakfast included in rate. Used as layover after coming off flight into Dublin and heading home to Limerick, so I checked in at 2:30AM and left at 08:30AM, so I was not able to enjoy it as much.

comments We really enjoyed our stay. The staff went out of their way to help us with every request. The bistro is fabulous and the bar in the hotel is very lively if you don't want to venture into the town. A top class hotel! I'd stay there again in a shot!

comments I have stayed at the Portlaoise Heritage several times over the past few years. It is by far the best hotel I have ever had the pleasure to stay in. I can't say that it is better than my expectations because it is always amazing as I expect it to be.

comments My husband and my self stayed here on the 3rd and the 4th October and and had a lovely time the rooms were big compfortable and the place its self was gorgeous, and best of all you walked of on to the street and one turn and you had all the shops, bars, curry shop, all on your doorstep i will definitly come again. comments Hotel is excellent.very efficient Reception. Beautifully appointed Rooms. Only negative was being unable to dine in a Hotel Rest.,without leaving Hotel on a very wet night. Arrived in Lobby to discover Rest across the road. Not suitably dressed in Raingear to leave Hotel.

comments Excelent service! booked for one night with a special price. My wife enjoyed the time & place so much there, we didn't want to leave, so they gave us the same room with the same price for another night, (although the standard price was higher). Too bad, we couldn't stay longer and enjoyed all the facilities the place has to offer. Will be back again!!! The receiptionists are very nice & helpful, wonderful bar, good location, nice, quite & spacious room.

comments Was completely satisfied with our stay. Hotel and rooms were extremely clean, staff courteous and helpful. Food in the Italian restaraunt superb. Only area that needs clarification is the children dining policy of 6:30. My understanding of it was that if customers wanted to have a drink in the bar and be out by 9 then last orders based on two hours eating would be 6:30. We had no problem getting a table in the Italian restaurant at 8 and when finished went to our room. Will be back.

comments Room was clean and warm, but lighting was 'cold' and inadequate for reading, as in most Irish hotels. Main restaurant was 'adequate'. Kelly's Foundry, the hotel's steakhouse was much better. it served superb steaks, with excellent side orders, and was great value. We were told that it was booked out when we tried to get a table, and we were able to dine only because it suited us to eat early at 5.00 pm. Early booking recommended!

comments My partner and I stayed here for our anniversary and I have to say we had a wonderful stay. The staff were very pleasant, and the room was fantastic. The only problem we had was finding the spa, even after asking at reception, and following signs, it was very confusing, and we ended up giving up and not going. But that is our only gripe. We ate the first night in Spagos Bistro and the food was delicious.

comments The hotel itself was very nice. The girl who checked us in at Reception was very helpful and competent. However, I felt that this hotels 4 star status is not really deserved. When we went for dinner the restaurant found it quite hard to find a high-chair for our son. When one was found it had been fixed with what looked like decking. On another occassion we were at breakfast with our son in his highchair when a couple arrived with twins. ON this occassion only one other high-chair could be found. This is quite surprising for a four star hotel to have only two highchairs for three restaurants. On a plus side the swimming pool was beautiful. All in all I think the Heritage needs to work a bit harder on its four star status.

comments NO Info was given at check in time regarding booking dinner at the Fitzmaurice Restaurant, and we had two children with us when we went to book dinner we were told unless we got there within the next 5 mins we would not be able to eat there as children not allowed after 6.30pm. Also the food was of a very poor quality and the choice for children was dreadful. It would ut me off staying there again

comments it is very easy to get Lost in the hotel as there's so many doors/corridors-a few more signs would be very helpful. Breakfast was Fab. Was a little disappointed with the Ealu Spa.Had a Hotstone massage -was left waiting for 20 mins on arrival BUT nobody told me how long more i would be or sorry for the delay.Massage was lovely but i was a bit bothered going in as i was left sitting for so long.Check-in staff are lovely and Bar staff in residence bar are very good

comments Our stay at Portlaoise Heritage was pleasant beyond expectation. Room was immaculate, bathroom spotless, room turndown etc. tops. Reception staff extremely courtious and helpful, especially Jenny. Consierge more than helpful - was helpfull without us even having to approach or ask. I inadvertantly left items behind in bedroom and upon phonecall I very gratefully received them in post within 2 days. Spagos restaurant excellent to the point we ate there on both evenings of our stay. Cannot praise enough.

comments Immediate reception and atmosphere was classy relaxed, warm and inviting. The main restaurant within the hotel was very nice. Food was fabulously prepared and every bite tasted was delicious! However I would like to suggest some areas to improve on: The main head waiter in the restaurant seated eveyone on the same side of the restaurant even though there did not appear to be any reservations on the vacant tables. By seating everyone together guests could over hear conversations from other guests at the tables beside them and therefore no sense of privacy or space. Also our waitress on that night seemed pushy direct and impatient! I would also suggest trays to be provided in the breakfast room as I burned my hand carrying my irish breakfast to my table. Although our bedrooms were excellently serviced and clean-room staff were very stingy with providing milk-four small milks are simply not enough for two people. When my mother asked a room staff for more milk the girl replied"no, thats what you get in all hotels" This is not good! Finally I liked the day reception staff however they need to smile more and the night reception staff when we were there appeared to have a lazy attitude-even talking seemed a chore to him! The porter also had a rough manner and untidy dress. I would suggest some training in interpersonal skills and reception and presentation skills. Overall a very nice stay and I will return!

comments The tiles in the changing rooms and around the swimming pool are extremely dangerous, i know the hotel request you wear flip flop etc but they still need to put herron rib matting all around the swimming pool and more in the dressing rooms or even better change the tiles

comments The hotel itself was lovely but the service in all areas except the swimming pool and reception was terrible.The staff were most unprofessional for a four star hotel.The spa was most disappointing-a swedish massage is not worth the time or the money there.Also bookings for the spa need to be made 3 weeks in advance we were told on arrival by the spa staff as most of the bookings are already occupied by the locals not guests of the hotel. Whilst in Spagos restaurant we waited 30 minutes before being served any drink or food.Decor is seriously lacking in the Fitzmorris resturant - it was the exact same as the breakfast room.

comments Lovely hotel with very helpful staff. However, the room was too warm with no control over the heating, breakfast in our room was lukewarm, the reservation I had made for our evening meal had not been passed to the restaurant and the noise level outside after a party was horrendous until 4am with security doing nothing about it. For a 4 star hotel I was disappointed although the staff did try to make up for the shortcomings when informed of the problems.

comments We had a lovely time, in a truly four star rated hotel. The room was spacious as we were at the end of a corridor. The leisure centre looked fabulous and the spa was a great experience. The hotel is huge and includes a number of bars and restaurants. The staff were lovely and the location central.

comments Hotel had everything you`d expect from a 4* hotel and more. We felt guest safisfaction & enjoyment was their top priority. There was a passing comment made in relation to my husband being the birthday boy when we were booking in - that evening after dinner when dessert came out they had a little candle in the middle of it and "happy Birthday" written around the edge in chocolate! - that says it all!!!

comments I have stayed several times at this hotel and indeed am again tonight. The restaurant needs to have the same person serve a meal that takes the order as mistakes are being made. This can easily be sorted out and i have said it to restaurnat management , they nod agreement but dont implement. Fix this and you have a world class hotel.

The only discomfort was that the room was cold and the heating only came on briefly at certain times of the day which is poor for a hotel, and we were woken up by the noise of the radiator when it came on for that brief time at 7am.

comments Only cause for complaint was breakfast on Sunday morning. There wasn't much on offer for those who didn't want a cooked breakfast at 10.25am - looked like hotel had run out and only bread available was a plate of brown bread. We felt the breakfast area is badly designed and gets congested with the queue for the hot breakfast.

comments The Hotel itself is gorgeous and the staff are very welcoming and helpful. There's a very good buffet breakfast with plenty of choice. Our only complaint was that the evening meal did not cater at all well for kids. There was no kids menu and only chicken nuggets or sausage & chips were on offer. In fairness they did when asked do breast of chicken and chips for the kids but they had no starter choice and only ice-cream on offer for dessert so we thought that could have been better. Other than that we would have given a 5 star rating.

comments We felt it was fantastic value and the staff and facilities were excellent - however - we did feel that the room we were out into was not a prime room and that perhaps as it was an offer, the room matched that offer - (was a 1st floor room overlooking a flat roof and train line - certainly not scenic) - however as we booked the break to attend a funeral this was not something we focused on or addressed with the hotel.

comments 4 of us stayed in the Portlaoise Heritage Hotel for 3 nights midweek and found this hotel to be fab. Very relaxing, staff very friendly and helpful and the rooms very clean and quiet. Leisure facilities are great. Bars are lovely and be sure to eat in the Italian restaurant, the food was fab, the steak was like butter, compliments to the chef. Overall a great stay. Lovely hotel.
