comments I must stay that my family and friends had a wonderfull break at the hotel from checking until leaving 2 days later they could not fault it. The Al la Carte menu could have a better variety in choice but that's being picky. Thanks to all the staff for a warm welcome.

comments I absolutely loved my stay at your hotel. I stayed there for 7 days and it was a wonderful experience. The rooms are spotless, beautifully maintained and spacious. The beds were to die for and the view spectacular as I had a sea view room. The location to the town and public transportation is ideal. I would highly recommend your hotel to any future guests.

comments The hotel was lovely, room very clean, leisure facilities were lonely the pool really warm clean etc. The breakfast however was a let down the food was ok but the dining room was a disaster, no seat had to wait for a table , then had to find cutlery cups etc. Had to ask for everything and ate at a table beside the lifts as there was no one where else to sit. The food was only tepid and no butter on tables no salt pepper no milk had to find cups of another table as the staff were way to busy, they were helpful giving me cutlery for me to dress my own table not there fault, under staffed.

comments The location is excellent. The standard room was really spacious and everything was first-rate. What really was far from satisfactory was the breakfast on Sat am. You should indicate that certain times are going to be very busy and recommend that clients try to stagger the arrival time. My daughter and I were seated, then ignored. No order for hot drinks was taken and since she is vegetarian, she needed to order poached eggs. I served myself, but found no egg on the buffet and the bacon was stone cold. It was only after this that we managed to attract the attention of the waiter. My daughter's food was fine and the continental buffet looked good. I did mention this at checkout but no comment was made. I resented paying for such an unsatisfactory, uneaten plate of food.

comments The hotel staff were friendly and helpful. The room had a sea view but was very small, however it was comfortable and adequate. People were using the front of the hotel as a smoking area and were noisy and kept us awake until 3am. Unfortunately we chose the same night to stay as the UCD Valentines ball. The food in the bar and the restaurant was very good and breakfast was good the dining room was pleasant. We had a one night package that included dinner I thought it was a little unnecessary to limit us to a special menu I think it would be better to add supplements to the expensive items and give people the choice.

comments Overall the standard of room was satisfactory, as was the food in the dining room. The main point I would stress is that the hotel has lost all of its special ambience that it once had. It no longer gives one that special experience , but instead equates itself to a Holiday Inn, or Day's Inn standard. The soul of the hotel had been taken away. please note it is a number of years since I stayed at the hotel. At that time fine dining and luxury surroundings were available.sadly today they no longer exist in the Royal Marine.

comments The stay was very good. We didn't eat at the hotel much as we felt the menus were a little limited compared to some found locally. I would also question the spa team. When we visited to look around it took a long time for some one to step up and assist us and then only when we asked. The experience felt very awkward. We would have used the facilities more if it had felt more welcoming. Many thanks

comments Every year 4 of us set off on our long awaited spa break after saving up for months. The Royal Marine was 2011 Spa break . We found that the sign posting was not great for the hotel itself but we stopped and asked if we were heading in the right direction. On arrival the reception staff were very nice. Our rooms were nice and clean and the beds were very comfortable. Our spa treatments weren't until the next day but we like to check where we go and what the facilities are like. the staff for the pool and spa were all lovely. The pool was really nice with lovely soft lighting, so relaxing. A big jacuzzi, and there was also a steam room and sauna. The spa itself was quite poky. There are 4 of us but we couldn't all be in the relaxation room together as only 3 can fit. the other relaxation room with the water beds were quite a let down as they were cold. we found that we got cold there. The thermal sweet was very nice. We all enjoyed out treatments but those who got the pedicures did not like being in the main walkway to the locker rooms. The bar food was very nice. The breakfasts were fabulous. And the restaurant food was beautiful too. Overall we really enjoyed our stay at the Royal Marine even though the spa was not the best we've been in and that was more to do with the layout. If you love your fresh air and walking or just relaxing and people watching and liked good food we would recommend the Royal Marine

comments The hotel is in a very stylish building, just a little difficult to find the entrance beside another entrance to the shopping centre car park. The room had a beautiful view out on the pier and sea, the facilities in the room were very good. The sink in the bathroom had a leak so we highlighted this to reception on the day of departure and she was very apologetic about it. The staff were lovely, especially the man in the bar. It is a lovely central hotel if you want to walk and explore Dun Laoighaire. I enjoyed the breakfast with another nice room and a good choice. I would definitely return to this hotel

comments Hotels often get a hard time for customer service and helpfulness. I just want to Thank the reservations team and in particular Emma ahead of our stay next weekend for an unparalleled level of service. I have stayed with the Royal Marine a number of times on business & training courses I have organised over the last few years and wanted to treat my wife to a stay in your establishment as a ' Babymoon' event making use of the relaxation areas & spa which I have also used on a few occasions. Having booked the room direct online late on the evening of the 10th, I called to book the Spa treatments etc a few days later - for whatever reason they couldn't taking a booking just at that time, so being human it went out of my mind for a few days. On calling back on the 19th it became apparent it was very busy in the Spa during the weekend of our stay and it was likely my wife couldn't get the specific pregnancy treatments she had picked out and as a consequence it looked unlikely that we could get the hotel & spa experience we wanted and may have had to consider another venue as it was all about the pregnancy pampering. I can only praise Emma's efforts from afar - truly exceptional understanding to finding a resolution to the situation. You have my firm nomination for 'Staff member of the month' for the way you managed this and retained the reservation which is now a whole host of spa treatment dotted over the weekend and a meal reservation in Dún Bistro on Saturday evening. Emma You made the difference and it's greatly appreciated.

comments We booked the Royal Marine Hotel because of its porximity to one of the yacht clubs that we were visiting for a party. We were elated to see that the hotel had undergone a complete refurbishment since we had last seen it. It was top class. Our double room was large, clean and comfortable, and despite not having a sea view, fullfilled our needs perfectly. The staff were efficient and welcoming and the ambience was just right. I would definitely recommend it. It was priced competitively and ticked all the boxes. Well done Royal Marine Hotel.

If you can have a microwave it will benefit the members who are opting for long-term stay. Also if you can install coin-operated washing machine, it will be very helpful.

When we returned from having had supper the room was still very cold. The receptionist adjusted the thermostat but said that no hot water bottles were available! It did rather spoil what would otherwise have been a very pleasant stay.

Great food but Tea for 2 for eight euro has to be a mistake, only noticed it when looking at a receipt when i arrived home, would have queried it otherwise. comments The Royal Marine Hotel Dun Laoghaire is an excellent hotel, good price rates, comfortable rooms and is well located for the Dart Station & Air Coach Bus Service which comes directly to the hotel door.. However the only complaint I have ....is that I was not advised that there were two Xmas party nights events (Frid 10 Dec & Sat 11 Dec) during my three night stay. My partner and I were wakened from 1.30am to about 5.00pm (Frid 10 Dec) with the party people returning to their rooms after partying. Next morning however we did advise reception who then moved us to another room at the opposite end of the hotel from where the Xmas parties where happening. The room was slightly quieter but not much. So we were very dissapointed, I could understand there would be no sound proofing in the old part of the hotel (room 310), but not in the new part (room 259). We picked this hotel as it is located near my family in Sandycove, we would have to think seriously about staying again! Therfore I would suggest you advise other customers in future....!

comments The hotel is very comfortable and the staff helpful. Would give a higher score but for noise from events taking place in the hotel on Friday and Saturday nights making sleep difficult in our room on the fourth floor.

comments The Reception staff and general attitude of all was excellent. My comments relate to the facilities. There was no heating in the bathroom and in early December with the snow, that was particularly difficult. Also the room itself was very cold. The thermostat said there was a max of 24 C. In fact it went higher than that, but was still very cold. I think a blanket should be left in each room for such occurrences. Also, a bottle of water would be a welcome addition.

comments We arrived in very windy and snowy conditions and tired after a long road and sea jouney from London. There was a minimum of assistance for my wife to reach the hotel entrance from our car as she did not wish to stay whilst I parked it underground. At Reception, the welcome was not all that warm and we had to negotiate for a change of room from that which was allocated to us on the 4th Floor. We were told it could not be reached via a staircase from the 3rd Floor, which we thought was odd. Having settled on a Ground Floor room, things improved and we were comfortable and warm despite the cold outside. Also, we thought the hotel was well run and the food enjoyable, if on the expensive side. We admired the ability of the management to keep the many outside functions separate from the residential parts of the hotel ensuring that resident guests were not disturbed by such functions. Breakfast was particularly well organised with willing staff and well prepared food. On checking out a different Receptionist from that who greeted us on our arrival was totally charming and sent us on our way with a smile.

comments Hotel was beautiful, room was very nice. Hardys bar was good, But restaurant quality was not up to standard of Hotel and it was very cold both in the restaurant and in the room, even with the heating on full. I know it was a particularly cold spell, but I spent a night in another near by hotel and that was a more comfortable temperature.

comments Great accommodation. Warm, friendly and welcoming staff. The leisure centre (swimming pool, sauna, steam room, jacuzzi) is probably the best I have experienced in any hotel in Dublin/Ireland. Parking facilities excellent. Great location for the hotel also - right in the heart of Dun Laoghaire and close to everything - sea, shopping, cafes, restaurants. Will definitely go back to this hotel. Great value for money also.

comments From start to finish our stay at the Royal Marine was excellent. As we enjoy swimming we took full advantage of the superb leisure facilities including relaxing in the hydropool. The room had air conditioning, keeping the summer heat 'at bay'. All staff encountered were courteous and efficient. Not forgwetting the food, both breakfast and dinner was excellent each day, with ample choice. We have already booked a return visit for four days in late December and really looking forward to returning. Well Done the Royal marine Hotel, Dún Laoghaire!

Its close to great shops, bars and restaurants although the hotel itself offerred a lovely atmosphere, friendly staff and excellent food. I have stayed at the Royal Marine twice this year aready. I made use of the gym, the pool and the spa which I found to be great value and the girls were fantastic. This is easily one of my favourite Irish hotels and I look forward to staying again in the near future.

comments I was delighted and surprised by my experience at the Royal Marine Hotel earlier this month. The building has stood as the Grand Old Dame of Dun Laoghaire for so many years, I expected it to have lots of character, but to be damp, dingy and in need of updating. I was so happy to discover that all the updating had already been done! The public spaces are wonderful, our rooms were decorated beautifully, our view of the sea was a delight, and the Junior Suite that my young married relatives were booked into was huge and magnificently appointed! The new wing in no way feels less magestic than the original building. The construction and furnishings made a perfect, seamless addition to the Royal Marine. Wonderfully accomodating staff, great breakfasts, and so very near to the DART ~ I'd have to say that the Royal Marine Hotel was a treasure, and I shall be returning there whenever I'm in the Dublin area.

comments What a lovely Hotel the Royal Marine is. We stayed 6 Feb 2010. The staff were extremely friendly and the room was exceptionally lushous and comfortable. comments Overall it's a great hotel. The first night I was checked into room 616 in the build and there was a very annoying noise coming from outside room which resulted little sleep. The room I was moved to was great and I had a good stay but the bathroom had broken tiles and stains which gives the impression it's not clean. The was issues with some of the TV channels which appeared to be isolated to my room.

comments Enjoyed our stay tremendously! The great location & ambiance of the royal marine took us away to another place & time, & spoiled us. Stayed in room 402 next to the charlie chaplin suite, was luxurious, romantic & quiet, could have used a little more lighting as only a small window in the room, but view of little sailboats in the harbour & people walking the promanade was very enjoyable, got a fantastic rate for 3 nights, but the very best of all was the huge bed, all I can say is QUALITY, so soft it was like being cuddled on a swans back, we never wanted to get out of it,or go home.Leisure center was nice & intimate, but make SURE you bring your own flipflops, the tiles can be slippery,& you will pay 17 euro at the hotel for a pair, although penneys is just around the corner. Would I stay there again? MY BAGS ARE ALREADY PACKED!!!!!
Hotel Response:

We look forward to welcoming you back soon. We now have flip flops available in the hotel from 4 Euro and swim hats from 3 Euro.

comments The hotel was in an excellent location as we toured the city of Dublin and traveled on the DART. At the same time, there is a lot to see and do in Dun Laoghaire so we enjoyed that as well. The food at the hotel was wonderful, service quite nice, and we will definately come back if our plans take us in that direction
Hotel Response:

Thank you for leaving your comments. We are glad that you enjoyed your time with us in the Royal Marine as well taking some time to explore Dun Laoghaire.

comments We arrived after a 5 hour drive and booked in which was dealt with very efficiently. We wanted to book a table for dinner but the restaurant was closed. We were told that we could dine in the bar but there were not tables and we were advised that there would be a long wait. We had to dine in the hall which was very uncomfortable as people were passing all the time. We returned to our room and then the fire alarm went off just as I was preparing for bed. As lovely as this hotel is I did not feel that we were able to enjoy the four star experience.

comments The Hotel was fantastic, staff very very good, only problems was that house keeping came round at 7.45am to start cleaning rooms on our floor, of which they were very noisy, other than that had a great stay, wouldn't visit ireland again as it's far to expensive, feel like you are getting ripped off every time you buy a beer (6 euros a pint)

comments Fine hotel,we got a really good deal and booked our next holiday there the day we left. Our room on the small side and looking into other buildings but not complaining as we could have upgraded for just 20 euro. As we live beside the sea the view was not important so we did not bother.Free parking another plus.

comments Nice plush room with sea view. Generally excellent service throughout. Hotel is close to all amenties including the DART for easy access to Dublin city centre. There are several good restuarants within walking distance of the hotel. This is important as the restuarant in the hotel leaves alot to be desired. If you plan to use the pool and spa do remember to pack your flip-flops as the hotel require you to have your own for use of the facilities. Not necessarily something you think of packing for a weekend away in the Irish Autumn.

comments we were overall very satisfied, especially as we were upgraded to an executive room. Our only complaint would be that, whilst we had a lovely view from the balcony, the balcony rail, and flooring, were covered with bird excrement. This should be cleaned off regularly, especially from the rail.

comments Business travelers need access to internet. Please consider adding the price of WIFI connectivity in all rooms into the price of the room itself. An additional charge for internet at a high rate should not be a way to make more money. Most men want a clean room with a bed, a TV, internet access and breakfast. Those four things are essential and should be in the price.
Hotel Response:

We offer complimentary High Speed internet in all bedrooms and complimentary WIFI in all public areas of the hotel. We only charge if you choose to use the internet through the Bedroom Television and this is charged at €10 for 24 hours.

comments THERE WAS A LACK OF SHOWER GEL. THE FIRE ALARM WAS ACTIVATED A NUMBER OF TIMES DURING OUR STAY, I BELIEVE THE STAFF COULD HAVE KEPT GUESTS BETTER INFORMED AS TO WHAT WAS HAPPENING. HOWEVER NONE OF THESE SMALL PROBLEMS WOULD STOP ME STAYING THERE AGAIN OR IN FACT ADVOCATING IT TO MY FRIENDS AND AFAMILY. WE THOROUGHLY ENJOYED OUR STAY IN THIS VERY WELL APPOINTED HOTEL WITH FRIENDLY STAFF AND GREAT FOOD.

comments The Royal Marine is a beautiful hotel with really pleasent staff and a wonderful set of facilities, with a pool area and Gym of quite a good standard. The Rooms, restaurant and bar are also of a really good standard. The location is not bad either. However if booking I would recommend not getting an evening meal on the package as it is quite a restricted menu and you will want to order from their main menu which is fantastic.

comments much better than we thought previous reviews led us to believe! Service was excellent - every staff member there to make your stay as pleasurable as possible. Breakfast was a little strange but we didnt have it included in our package so that was fine. Rooms are great - massive beds with memory foam comfort, toilet, sink, bath and shower cubicle - nice not to have to climb in and out of the bath! Pool, sauna, stem room and jacuzzi all gorgeous and constantly being cleaned. twice we witnessed staff scrubbing the grills round the pool and cleaning shower heads! Most unusual and not because they were bored, there just seemed to be a strong work ethic running right through the hotel. We had an executive room with balcony which is just about big enough to put 1 chair on but as the doors both open right up it would be fine to pull up chairs within the room. Room service was prompt - sandwiches at midnight with a pile of salad and masses of crisps - nothing mean about that! Reception staff helpful, ringing people on their day off to answer our queries, and always smiling and professional. We had the added bonus of having theMiss Ireland photo shoot their so we had elegant young ladies draped around the place for our entire stay! What more could you ask for!

comments It was a nice and very clean hotel. The one thing I didn't like about our room was de location next to the elevator. The elevator is a bit loud when it is going up and down. In general it was a pleasant stay. The hotel is in a good and quiet location when you want to explore both Dublin (20 minutes by DART) and the villages and nature (coast and Wicklow Mountains) under Dublin.

The staff were extremely helpful even to the point of running after us with an umbrella when it was raining. Although the spa area is not yet open they taxied us to a nearby hotel and arranged for us to use their pool. We thoroughly recommend this hotel and are planning on returning soon.
