comments Lovely hotel in a lovely situation. Skye suite lovely. Staff very friendly. One extremely minor issue - could breakfast be served a bit earlier and for a bit longer? On Saturday it was from 8.30 to 9.00.
Hotel Response:

Dear William, Thanks for your feedback and five star review. I would just like to clarify one point however, with reference to breakfast times. Breakfast has always been served between 8:30 and 9:30. However if a resident requires breakfast a bit earlier and requests this i.e. at 8:00 we ordinarily accommodate this too.

comments We were given a very nice welcome and shown to our room. The room was very nicely decorated with a large bathroom and nice shower. I was surprised that the bathroom was carpeted though and wonder if it will still be carpeted on my next visit. We could have eaten our evening meal in the restaurant with a beautiful view of the loch but it was very quiet. We opted to eat in the bar instead. The menu was the same but there was a very lively atmosphere. The food was excellent and was reasonably priced. The staff were very attentive and helpful. Breakfast was also excellent. We really enjoyed our stay and are glad to have found such a nice hotel in such a perfect location. We will definitely be going again.

comments We very much enjoyed our stay at the Galley of Lorne Inn. We were a little worried as we made our way down the single track road as to where exactly we had booked. We were very pleased when we arrived at your Inn. It is exactly as your lovely website described, if not better. The bathrooms were large (which was much appreciated) and the manager, Chris, even provided us with an early morning breakfast tray as we needed to be on our way before your breakfast hours. I would highly recommend your Inn to anyone. It was one of the better places we stayed on our trip. Only wish we had been able to have stayed more than 1 night. Excellent Inn and value.

comments Views were perfect. rooms were comfortable. except for the bed in room arron. could do with a new mattress very lumpy and the pillows were very hard after all for the price of nightly tarrif one expects the best. food very good. staff pleasant
Hotel Response:

Dear Mr Ayres Many thanks for staying with us recently, I am pleased that you enjoyed your visit to The Galley. I must say I was surprised to hear your comments about the mattress and pillows, the mattess is less than 1 year old and we've never had any complaints about it being lumpy. The pillows are of medium firmness. I can only assume they are firm in comparison to your own pillows/mattress at home. I hope to welcome you back to the Galley soon. Kind regards Andrew & Sarah Stanton

comments Mix up in the online booking process meant I did not get the room I booked (Uist) and had to change room after third night. However, it was not a problem. Everything was dealt with very sympathetically and apologetically. Islay was lovely and comfortable and I got the best room in the hotel (Skye) for the third night at no extra charge. Also beautiful with a view to die for. I ate in the hotel all three nights and the food was excellent - good range of all types of dishes and an usually wide choice of vegetarian options. The tables were beautifully presented and the staff very efficient. All in all a lovely, relaxing stay and I will be back, especially if the management can promise me some better weather!

comments The hotel and restaurant were both quiet during our one night stay, but we were looked after throughout our stay by staff who obviously know to succeed the customer must be looked after. The room was excellent, the restaurant and service could not be faulted. The meal we had, consisted of fresh local produce prepared and presented beautifully. As for the location if you want somewhere off the beaten track with superb views of Scottish countryside then this is the place for you. All credit to Sarah & Andy the owners

comments We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at The Galley of Lorne Inn. 5 for ambience and comfort. 5 for friendliness and service. 5+ for delicious breakfasts. Pity about the tough steak at dinner which, sadly, was the reason for an overall 4 instead of 5. Would we recommend The Galley of Lorne Inn? Yes.

comments This is a fantastic Inn by the waters edge in Ardfern. I am a rep and do a alot of travelling and staying in hotels. This is by far the highlight of my seasonal trip to the Highlands. This was my second visit to the galley, since discoverying it on a wet and cold night in February earlier this year. The staff are polite and friendly and the pub offers a range of Whiskys, Largers and Beers. The food is excellent, and the Chef superb, with local produce on the menu! However I have saved best till last, as the Traditional Highland Breakfast is the best I have tasted in Scotland and is worth staying the night for alone. The rooms, restaurant and Bar are all very clean tidy and in keeping with the local environment. There is also a Pub Quiz on a Wednesday night, which everyone is welcome to attend! Will see you all soon! p.s. Did I mention it was EXCELLENT value for money! Thank you

comments Over all we loved our stay and would reccommend it to friends. There were a few wee things that might improve the room though - we felt there was too much furniture for the size of room. I think it really just needs the wardrobe and chest of drawers and a bedside table for the other side of the bed would be handy. Not sure about carpets in bathrooms either - men can't aim very well! (This is Niall's wife writing this btw! Oh and I'm not suggesting he peed on the carpet!) It is a lovely place though and I gave you a glowing review on trip advisor. The food especially was superb. Thanks again. Emma Macalister Hall
Hotel Response:

Many thanks for your in depth review here and also for your very kind review on Tripadvisor. For your knowledge and for anyone else who may be reading this review, we would just like to point out that we take health and hygiene most seriously as it's true the carpets can be a contentious point in the bathroom. Many people believe it adds that extra bit of luxury whereas others have questioned the hygiene implications of some males toilet training. Nonetheless, I can assure you that we steam clean and sanitise the carpets in the bathrooms on a regular basis to guard against this kind of problem.

comments On our first night there was no wine available as they were changing the wine list (at Easter)! Breakfast coffee was undrinkable - filling a jug with 8 espresso's is not how to make coffee, also bread was warm but not toasted.
Hotel Response:

Dear Mr Tautscher Many thanks for staying with us last month and for taking the time to write your review. We were a bit disappointed that you have only marked us 2 out of 5, and felt it prudent to respond to your comments. It was unfortunate that our change of wine supplier was delayed and resulted in a clash with Easter Weekend - no business person would plan such an event intentionally! I must just state that there was a limited selection of wines available rather than no wine as you have stated, but perhaps they did not suit your palate. Regarding the coffee and toast, I guess this is a matter of personal taste - our coffee certainly isn't espresso and we often receive praise from customers that we serve a fine cup! Regarding the toast - apologies if this was on the light side, had you made our staff aware at the time we would have been delighted to arrange a fresh batch to your requirements. We hope that you'll come back soon to the Galley and thanks again for taking the time to write your review. Kind regards Andrew & Sarah Stanton

comments The first thing that hit us was the heat in the hotel as you opened the front door, our visit was in early April and was nice on arrival but as our room had no window or ventilation it was very uncomfortable at night. We managed by leaving the bathroom door open and the bathroom window open the only draw back with that was the window open on to the deck out side the dinning room. The breakfast was one of the best we have had on our travels, but the dinner although very nice I was struggling to pick something plane with the limited menu. Over all its a great hotel in a super place and we will be back next year.
Hotel Response:

Dear Mr Jackson, Many thanks for your review and thank you for staying with us last month at the Galley of Lorne Inn. I was delighted to hear you had a great stay and will be back. One note about our Iona room is that we do clearly say the bedroom has no window, hence its cheaper tariff. Next time you're coming, let us know in advance and we'll organise some dishes especially for you. Best wishes Andrew & Sarah Stanton

comments The room was very nicely appointed, clean with a great view and a decent wifi connection, a little on the small size but certainly adequate. The staff where very helpful on arrival and in the bar. The restaurant was very pleasant only lacking in atmosphere because we where the only people in there on the night we stayed. The food was excellent. Breakfast was efficiently served and set us up for the day. It would have been nice to see the manager/owners around the place from time to time, it felt like the place was being run entirely by the junior staff (who did a great job).
Hotel Response:

Dear Mr Smith, We're glad that you enjoyed your stay here. Whilst I as owner endeavour to meet all of our residents on the odd occassion I do have a day off. Given that your stay was for a duration of one day must have meant that it coincided with one of the few days off a year I get. Hopefully we will meet you if you return on another occassion.

comments The room was fine but the service poor. Breakfast was served until 9:30am on the Sunday and I explained that my partner and I would be out late at a wedding, so not up in time for that. We were not offered an alternative, such as a continental breakfast. On checking out, it took ages to sort the bill out and, when we needed help finding a taxi, that help seemed grudgingly given. I would not recommend a stay in this hotel to a friend.

comments Since we only stay prior to getting the Calmac trip to Coll we're in for bed and dinner - both good. The only quibble would be that our very early start means that we leave hungry: a breakfast filled roll would be simple to organise.
Hotel Response:

Many thanks for your review. We take great pride in our reviews and treat them very seriously. As such I would like to come back to you with reference to your comments concerning breakfast. We have many people stopping over prior to catching ferries and as such appreciate that sometimes our breakfast between 8:30am and 9:30 am doesn't always suit peoples plans. It is our policy to offer an earlier breakfast i.e at 8:00 for those residents in that situation. If in the event our residents need to depart earlier we regularly organise a tray of provisions for breakfast for our residents to take to their room the evening before normally comprising of milk, cereals, bread, jams, juice and fruit etc. Obviously on this occassion it didn't seem to happen and as such I will be talking to my staff in order to try and find out why this didn't happen as a matter of course. If it was highlighted to our staff that you required an early departure and as such an earlier breakfast or provisions to take to your room then this should have been arranged. Nonetheless, we apologies for this matter. I do hope it didn't tarnish your experience of The Galley of Lorne Inn and hope someday you may return.

comments Fantastic location, a beautiful setting and so peaceful during the day and then at night the public bar was playing live music which was great and the place filled up. The restaurant is great although service the 2nd night was much slower than the first, I think the chef had bitten off more than he could chew!! Our room was lovely although our toiletries were not replaced for the 2nd night and we ran out of soap! Staff are very friendly, however the the owner should make himself known to his guests, not too onerous a task as he only has 6 rooms.
Hotel Response:

Many thanks for your review. We are sorry for not replacing the toiletries on the second night, something that has since been addressed with our housekeeper. With respect to the service on the second night, unfortunatly one of our chefs was not able to work thus leaving us short staffed. Finally, I would like to apologise for not meeting you in person, but sometimes I am very much reliant of being made aware of who our residents are by our staff. Ordinarily, when present I always make it my intention to meet our residents and very often spend a great amount time greeting and talking to them throughout their stay. If you return in the future I will ensure that I meet you in person.

comments We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Inn. There were a few niggles though; the cleaning of the rooms takes far too long & we had the unfortunate experience of running out of loo roll as this was not replenished during the clean. We felt that the Inn was good, but could be great with a little attention to details. We will definitely recommend the Inn & hope to be back soon.
Hotel Response:

Many thanks for your review. We're glad you very much enjoyed your stay here and hope to be back soon. With respect to the cleaning of our rooms, we take great pride in the high levels of cleanliness that we strive for and are often commented very favourably upon. Your stay did coincide with the first week of employment of our housekeeper for the forthcoming season and so would have taken longer than ordinarily so and also hence our apologies for the inconvenience re toilet roll.

comments This is the second time I have stayed here and the reason is very simple, great place to stay. The rooms although not very big are of a high standard and very clean. The food is fantastic with a good selection for both dinner and breakfast, which is also made to order. The bar and resturant are also to a very high standard with a nice decking area overlooking the loch to sit and relax on those warm summer evenings. Will be back.

comments Lovely place to relax and unwind. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. Our room was clean and comfortable. The food was delicious, although, as the food is prepared to order, service is slow. This was not a problem to us as we were staying the night and were happy to sit and chat and generally enjoy a relaxing evening.

comments The bedrooms are very tastefully decorated - the thick pile carpet is just bliss! The new restaurant extension has wonderful views over the loch and to the neighbouring island. The food was very good and the service highly competent. Would heartily recommend the Galley.

comments The Galley Of Lorne lived up to expectations and proved to be excellent value for money. Andrew and Sarah have done an excellent job here and the addition of decking will enhance the fabulous views. The rooms are very nice and the Highlander breakfast is to die for! The bar is terrific and has a friendly atmosphere and the locally produced Fyne ales are excellent. I would recommend this place to anyone and everyone and can't wait to return!
