Local Attractions:

• Perito Moreno Glacier (Glaciar Perito Moreno): 15 floor wall of ice looming over a turquoise backdrop of snow-capped mountain peaks. The glacier provides spectacular views from a variety of vantage points, consistently impressing travelers and scientists alike.

• Torres del Paine National Park (Parque Nacional Torres del Paine): its a remote Park, internationally described as one of the most untainted and unspoiled places on earth. 450,000 acres present an amazing biosphere recognized as a World Heritage site in 1978 by UNESCO.

• Glaciers National Park (Parque Nacional Los Glaciares): covers a surface of about 600,000 has. with 47 glaciers, for example Marconi, Bolado, Onelli, Peineta, Viedma, Moyano, Upsala, Agassiz, Spegazzini, Mayo, Ameghino, Moreno and Frias. All of them draining to the Atlantic Ocean (Oceano Atlantico). Its one of the most picturesque places in the world.

• Walichu Caves: located just outside of El Calafate. You will see authentic Paleolithic cave drawings as you are guided through the region, and begin to understand the lifestyle of the early humans who inhabited the land nearly 4,000 years ago.

• El Chalten: surrounded by towering glaciers, crystal lagoons, vast lakes, and the Mount Fitz Roy. Its often deemed as the 'National Trekking Capital of Argentina' due to its unparalleled access to glacial terrain. The area is also known, for recreational climbing, camping, horseback riding, fishing, and rafting excursions.

Location:
El Calafate International Airport was inaugurated on November 17, 2000. It is 23 km from the city, receives direct flights from Buenos Aires, Ushuaia, Puerto Madryn, San Carlos de Bariloche, and Puerto Natales, among other cities.

Hosteria Lupama is 20 km from the Airport and 80 km from the Perito Moreno Glacier.

How to get there:

• By Plane: El Calafate International Airport is situated only 18 km from the city. It has a surface of 14.700 km² and a 2,500 meters long by 45 meters wide landing strip . The planes that operate here are Boeing 727 and 737, and similar aircrafts for domestic flights.
• By Car: From Esquel; Take the National Route 40 to the south, 180 km of paved road up to Gobernador Costa; from there until you take provincial route 20, you will pass by New Lubecka, La Laurita and Los Tamariscos. Immediately after this town, you must turn right and take provincial route 22 to Rio Mayo. It is very important to note that this is a distance of 238 km from Gobernador Costa and there is nowhere to stop for supplies so be prepared. There you will take National Route 40 and drive 123 km on this road to Perito Moreno.
• From Rio Gallegos: National Route 3, Provincial Route 5, National Route 40, and finally Provincial Route 11 to get to El Calafate.
